On-the-Job Training Pays
for Employers and Job Seekers!
- On-the-Job-Training is a win-win program that benefits both employers and job seekers! Employers are reimbursed for the cost of training new employees. New employees learn new skills and earn a wage at the same time.
- Both employers and employees benefit from the support services offered by Central MN Jobs & Training Services during the length of the OJT. Employment Specialists are available for consultation regarding any work-related issues that arise during the OJT.
- OJTs are funded through state and federal employment and training programs. CMJTS is a non-profit agency the administers these funds to local employers. Training contracts with CMJTS are facilitated with our experienced Employment Specialists.
- Employers do the training, employees do the learning, and CMJTS
does the paperwork.
On-the-Job Training (OJT) Guidelines for Employers
- OJT may be available for job seekers who are dislocated workers or who meet certain income guidelines.
- The employer agrees to provide occupational training and supervision
for the new employee while the employee is earning a regular wage
through the duration of the on-the-job training contract.
- The employer will be reimbursed up to one-half of the employee's
wage for the training period. Duration of reimbursement depends
on the job, education, and work experience of the employee.
- OJT can be written for permanent positions only and, in most cases, must be
for full-time jobs (at least 32 hours per week). OJT contracts can
be written for part-time hours if the employee has a certified disability
or is over the age of 55.
- The new employer has the full hiring decision and is expected to the keep the new employee working on a permanent basis after the OJT is completed.
- OJT must be determined with a CMJTS Employment Specialist before a
new employee starts the job.
