Dislocated Workers

Who can participate in the Dislocated Worker Program?

To be eligible, you must meet one of the follow requirements:

  • Have lost your job because of a plant/business closing or mass layoff.
  • Be out of work through no fault of your own, be eligible for or have run out of unemployment insurance benefits and be unlikely to find work in your previous occupation.
  • Have been self-employed (including farming or ranching) and are unemployed because of the general economic conditions in your community.

When should I ask to be part of a Dislocated Worker Program?

The sooner the better! The earlier you begin, the easier your transition will be to your next job. Staff members of the Dislocated Worker Program will work with you to put together a plan that will put you on the road to getting another good job.

How can the Dislocated Worker Program help me?

Services are tailored to your unique needs and may include:

  • Assessment of your current skills and interests
  • Help in determining your choices in career options
  • Assistance in preparing your resume and cover letters

  • Help relocating for a job, if necessary
  • Help with costs for transportation or other job search activities
  • Access to on-the-job training programs.
  • Tuition assistance for classroom training that supports your job goal (i.e. computer training, technical, or academic programs).
  • Referral for training to improve your reading and math skills
  • Information and assistance in getting a high school diploma or its equivalent
